BIM Track for subcontractors

June 13, 2019 3 min. read

Are you a subcontractor looking at BIM Track? Or perhaps you’ve been invited to BIM Track by another company, and you’re trying to get your bearings. In either case, this article is for you.

We’ll talk about what is important to you as a subcontractor, like resolving disputes, and how BIM Track can help. We’ll also take a look at what adding BIM Track to your workflow entails. Finally, we’ll share how to get up and running on the platform once you’ve received an invitation to a project hub.

Let’s get started.

How can BIM Track help me with my disputes?

You know better than us how quickly disputes can transform into bigger problems. If they’re not resolved quickly and effectively, they can cost everyone involved a lot of time and money.

At the same time, when you’re part of a project that’s got hundreds of members working on it, it’s easy to find yourself playing broken telephone as your message makes its way through the chain of command. Some of it may get lost on the way to its destination, if it gets there at all. Likewise, on the flipside, this can happen from the top-down as well. You probably use a headache-inducing combo of email, spreadsheets, screenshots to get your requests across.

What if you had a location that could be accessed from a browser or most BIM / CAD platforms for your communication that made your message instantly visible to the relevant members? What if you could assign a person and deadline for resolution, add comments, and more all in one place?

That’s the essence of BIM Track. There, saved you reading.

The interesting aspect from your unique view as a subcontractor though is BIM Track also keeps a record both of what you communicated, when, and what was communicated to you or your teams. This log can be reviewed later on, if necessary.

Say the electrician on your team asked a question/processed a request and he didn’t get his answer at the right time. If that is brought up during a meeting, you can verify whether that request was made, at what time it was communicated, and if he did, in fact, get a response or not. This is just one example of the many ways BIM Track has the potential to simplify dispute resolution for you.

BIM Track isn’t a free-for-all

The hub owner will create different teams and establish communication rules right from the get-go. As much as we encourage easy communication, we don’t want to let the communication run amok, either.

Not another software!

If your tech stack is as full as ours, we feel your pain; that’s why we’ve designed our user interface to be as straightforward as possible, our onboarding easy, and give you the tools you need to get up and running asap.
