Good Foundations - What are the Benefits of BIM?

May 03, 2020 1 min. read

As we’ve already covered, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process for managing AEC projects. The benefits of BIM go beyond 2D and 3D modeling, and instead get to the intelligence behind the model.

Because BIM is fundamentally a holistic process that involves the entire team of an AEC project, the benefits to employing BIM can include (but are not limited to):

  • Keeping all stakeholders informed
  • Managing workflows and timelines
  • Keeping a project from going off-budget

By creating a BIM execution plan, everyone involved in the project (from architects, engineers, general contractors, owners, outside specialists, etc.) can be made aware of how the project progresses, and they can add their expertise at the right time. This reduces rework and makes for better, stronger teamwork.
