Stuck in the elevator with Alain Bolduc

March 30, 2018 3 min. read

It’s no secret that we have a pretty special group here at BIM Track. That includes a hard-working behind-the-scenes team. Meet their capitaine, Alain Bolduc.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Teamwork, challenging & innovation.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

No two days look the same! Some days I am actively coding, others working to unblock the team, or turning product development ideas into concrete dev specs. File management is a huge part of what we are working on right now for BIM Track Premium, including 2D and 3D files.

What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

Usually thinking about the family, how everyone’s doing and what we will get up to on the weekend. My mother’s side of the family has a sugar shack that we all pitch in with, so I am often thinking about that too, especially at this time of year. I try to leave work on the back burner for my brain to work out issues, but it can be hard. I was the first developer at BIM Track; it’s my baby!

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

My biggest achievement is the pleasure of being responsible for this team. I never had that privilege and challenge before. I am still very much learning but it's exciting for me.

What’s your favorite blog / podcast?

I have a few, but what I follow the most closely is Microsoft’s development of Azure. It’s interesting to follow and see how fast it’s evolving.

What do you like best about working at BIM Track?

The team and the spirit of teamwork. There’s no one here who thinks they are better than anyone else, everyone’s working in the same direction. It’s a very collaborative approach. People also know when it’s time to work hard and when it’s time to play hard. Everyone grabs a beer at 4pm, but then they choose to go back to work.

"Alain is famous for saying an idea that completely questions your course of action and dropping the mic. He plants a seed that allows you to find your own path to the solution.”
